Plateau State — home of diverse peoples,
breathtaking highland landscapes, and a rich
cultural heritage spanning over two millennia.

49 +

Years of
Statehood

Plateau State was created on 3 February 1976 from the former Benue-Plateau State. Located in Nigeria's North Central zone, the state is home to over 4 million people across 17 Local Government Areas, with Jos as its vibrant capital city — known as "J-Town" or the "Tin City."

With a temperate highland climate averaging 18–22°C, Plateau State is Nigeria's top producer of Irish potatoes, strawberries, and temperate vegetables — and a premier destination for tourism, culture, and natural heritage.

Our Governance Approach

Community Engagement Policy Planning Implementation Monitoring Accountability

Guided by the ARISE Agenda, the Plateau State Government delivers services through a transparent, inclusive, and citizen-centred process.

We engage communities across all 17 LGAs to understand their
needs and priorities. Citizens are at the heart of every decision — from
rural villages to urban centres in Jos.

Every programme is backed by data, research, and expert input.
Our ministries develop policies that address real challenges
from food security to youth unemployment and healthcare access.

Projects are executed with timelines, budgets, and accountability measures.
Progress is tracked, published, and open to public scrutiny
ensuring every naira reaches its intended purpose.
